hey! ...you're meeting the family. at credit one bank, we believe having the credit and rewards for the little moments today, can lead to even bigger ones tomorrow. earn up to 10x points on travel and 5x points on dining with the credit one bank wander american express card. credit one bank. for what's ahead.™ >> ainsley: we begin the final hour of "fox and friends" with this. president trump getting a warm welcome at yankee stadium while saluting the flag during the national anthem on 9/11. [cheering] [booing] [cheering]
5:01 am
>> ainsley: the tribute coming 24 years since devastating terror attacks and 24 hours after the political assassination of charlie kirk. you can hear patriotic chants in the stadium before the game even started. u. u.s.a., u.s.a., u.s.a., u.s.a. >> lawrence: yankees were led -- >> brian: the important part. >> lawrence: led to victory by slugger aaron judge who hit two home runs. judge's epic performance coming after this exchange with the commander-in-chief. >> president trump: you're going to win, going to go all the way and get in the playoffs. i wish you were a little bit bigger, what a big player. so you have that much muscle, you have to hit the ball. fantastic player, unbelievable. great to know you.
5:02 am
>> i appreciate that. >> brian: yankee fans hope the yankees go on a big winning streak. here is the president of the united states, great to see you. >> president trump: like old days at yankee game with randy and the steinbrenner's and george was a great friend of mine. they won. i met the players in the morning and spoke to them in the morning. i tell you what, i met them just before the game, i said, you have to win this game, i will look bad if you don't win this game. they were great. and aaron judge, he is some player, but he is some strong guy. he is the biggest forearms, i've seen weightlifters, never arms this big. two home runs, a single. >> lawrence: they are saying you are responsible for this, he shook your hand. >> president trump: i felt like
5:03 am
nut newt rockney. they had a couple games they lost, this was a big game for them. randy levine and the whole family have been fantastic with me and the fans were really nice. you never know what you are going to get in a new york ballpark. we got tremendous applause the love the country. >> ainsley: you -- and you said you were going to award him the presidential medal of freedom. any update on the suspect. >> president trump: yeah. can i always say, i think just to protect us all and so fox doesn't get sued and us and everything else. i think with high degree of certainty, we have him in custody, in custody.
5:04 am
everyone did a great job, worked with local police, governor, everybody did a great job. getting somebody you start off with absolutely nothing and we started off with a clip that made him look like anent, almost useless, just saw someone up there. so much work has been done, it is amazing when you start with that and all of a sudden, you get lucky or talent or whatever it is. i think we're in great shape, he's in custody. >> lawrence: your suspicion was he was radical left and now you have more information. what can you share about his ideology? >> president trump: lawrence, by the way, lawrence is doing a good job, what is going on here. i'm proud of you. they said you were going to do well. yeah, i think that i don't want to go too far, like to tell you stories how it happened, essentially somebody very close to him turned him in and that
5:05 am
happens when you have good shots, somebody will say whether a parent or whatever, i would rather not say right now, they will announce it later today, probably talk about that. somebody close to him said, whoa, it is interest ing, we ha very good pictures, but not great or perfect. when you look at it, what happened, somebody and this happens a lot, it happened with the crazy boston bomber, and with others. somebody that is close recognizes a little tilt of the head and somebody close to him said, that's him. and essentially went to the father, went to u.s. marshal who is fantastic and the person was involved with law enforcement but was a person of faith, a minister. and brought him to a u.s. marshal, who is fantastic and the fath er convinced the son,
5:06 am
this is it. and i'm always subject to be corrected, just giving you based on what i'm hearing, they will give you -- i just heard about it five minutes before i walked in. as i'm walking in, they said looking good, they have the person they wanted. so you have breaking news, don't you, you always have breaking news, ainsley. sean will be disappointed we're not doing it on his show. >> ainsley: he will be thankful and appreciative of the police officers that got this guy. >> president trump: everybody worked together, pam bondi, people don't know what a star she is, she is incredible. it worked out. >> brian: can i ask you clarification, a pastor was able to turn him in, they got the family of the shooter to turn hi him? >> president trump: a minister, a minister who is involved with law enforcement, by the way.
5:07 am
his good friend is a top u.s. marshal and they took it from there and then it was a father got involved, namely his father and said we got to go in and i understand it, subject to change, the facts are the facts, we have the person we think we're looking for. they drove into the police headquarters and he's there now. >> ainsley: did the father know what the son had done? >> president trump: i don't know, i will let you get those questions later. i can't tell you how accurate, bottom line, they have somebody they think did it. >> lawrence: mr. president, there is the death penalty in utah and this will be a federal case. many of us believe charlie was targeted because of his political ideology. what will happen to this guy? >> president trump: i hope he
5:08 am
will be found guilty, i would imagine and hope he gets the death penalty. charlie kirk was the finest person, he did not deserve this. he worked so hard and well. everybody liked him, even the left is having a hard time. they fired dowd from usdnc, they fired him and are firing other people. talking about radical left. radical left networks and ib cael channels, horrible like ms, i always call it dns. it is affiliated with democratic national committee, a little statement you make. msnbc, abc, they are terrible. even they have been giving it like this can't be allowed to happen. >> brian: i love moment of silence at yankee game and redskin game, commanders game last night. doesn't matter who you voted for
5:09 am
this, this was a special person. my opinion, you have people, when a soldier dies, you feel it. when something happens in america, you feel it and show up for it. i feel like with charlie kirk from what i witnessed for you, almost like a family member. >> president trump: you know, don said to me, he's sort of like a son to you. charlie got involved 11 years ago, he's a brilliant guy, didn't go to college. he started in college, he was so bored he left. he would have done well in college if he wanted to. he was brilliant. can you get a degree, you are like people go you went to college, right? he didn't have the patience to do it. he started this during what would be college, maybe sooner than that. what would normally be college and it's become a movement and i won youth, a republican never wins youth. i won youth. tiktok helped me.
5:10 am
he helped me with tiktok. he helped me with youth. i have never seen a person who is older, older than people we're talking about. i have never seen young people or any group go to one person like they did to charlie. he'd go out to arizona, to any school, to utah, where he was, any school, east coast, anywhere, have bigger rallyings than any adral speaker. he would have 5 or 10,000 people show up. he was unbelievable talent and wasn't so much talent, he just really believed it. he loved young people. he wanted to help young people. he didn't deserve this, he was truly a good person. >> brian: do you think it is important for people to see how he died? i think to see the horrific --
5:11 am
>> president trump: i didn't want to watch it. i would have never made a good doctor, let me put it that way. i heard enough. i didn't want to watch it. i didn't want to remember charlie that way. yeah, it's horrific is what i hear, just horrific. i know fr friends that were the and they told me, what we witnessed, physical emotion, even watching on television. he was somebody, i said he was talented. when you love something so much it is not talent, you do it well because you like it. >> brian: passion. >> president trump: he had a passion for this. i spoke to his wife yesterday, she is like devastated. >> ainsley: of course. >> president trump: in between devastation, they want to keep turning point usa going because so many people called in with donations. do we give donations to her, to
5:12 am
tur turning point usa, to hundreds of colleges he worked with or universities. they want to keep turning point usa going, he had a very good staff. charlie would call me up, i'm president of the united states and i get a call day before, sir, could you come to arizona tomorrow. charlie, i'm president, i can't just come. it is so important. i would usually try and get there. he was such a great guy and it had to end this way. he's bigger now because of what happened. he was really big. important. this does not help his family very much, in terms of very important, such a good word, solid word. we have so many bad people, bad philosophies ideaologies, politics, his was basically just good. he talked about family and getting married. go get married.
5:13 am
sounds old-fashioned when you think about it, he is right, he was just on. and it is a shame that voice has been stopped. i think from what i see, i got to know a lot of his people. he had great people, including his wife. he said she's the best writer he's ever seen. she's a writer. maybe they can keep it going. >> lawrence: was it a one off? was this guy that assassinated charlie, he wasn't part of a bigger network? >> president trump: i don't know, i hear people talking so badly about me and others, i'm a guy that just wants to make america great again. we took d.c., probably single worst place in the country in terms of crime, no crime. it's a crime-free area. i went to dinner the other night, stood in the middle of the street, did interviews with you guys in the middle of the
5:14 am
street. if i did that six months ago or a year ago, i would have a 30% chance of being here. it is amazing, d.c. is a great, safe network, fixing it up physically, putting in new medians, give everything coat of az asphalt. they would fill a pothole and never touch it 10 years. old potholes don't look good. we'll make it beautiful at minimal cost, we'll have the most beautiful capital in the world. people would come from iowa and indiana and their son would be killed, killed. now you can come and you can enjoy. i was very embarrassed because i had president of poland in and hay they started asking me about d.c., i said we're proud of the fact nobody has been killed this week. he being loos at me and says,
5:15 am
i'm telling the press, in the oval office, great oval office, upgraded office. the press is asking, what about that, we have not had anybody killed in the last three weeks and it's been like nine years since nobody has been killed every week somebody has been killed for years. we have not had crime. they said down 87%. i said what about the 13%, why wouldn't be down 100%. be proud of your capital, business and restaurants are booming. this took place, really in 12 days, now it is better, each day it becomes better. >> ainsley: what do you say to families watching, we've heard so much negative news with the lady being killed on the train. >> president trump: that was terrible. >> ainsley: and charlie kirk, a school shooting the other day,
5:16 am
those are just three big events that happened in the last few days or we learned about. >> brian: and the attempts on your life. >> president trump: that maniac is go ing through a trial right now, with a phenomenal judge. she realized jack smith was deranged. i appointed her, but i don't know her. talented person, brilliant judge. by coincidence, she got that case. he's a wise guy. the person that killed the young girl, beautiful girl, 22, 23 years old, she got on that intra, she was, you could see she just almost like snuck on, didn't want to --
5:17 am
>> brian: just finished her job. >> president trump: she was afraid. if you look at the way she is looking at her phone, she felt un unsafe. we can't have that. this maniac from behind, i didn't want to watch it. i knew what happened. what he did to her was unbelievable and he walks through, knife dripping blood and everything else. we have to have quick trials. in china, they do have quick trials. they don't wait six years. >> brian: you start guilty and end guilty in china. >> president trump: what happens here, seven or eight years and by time it ends -- well, he had a reason to do it, he wasn't treated right in grade school, it is his teacher's fault and government's fault. they should have a trial the following day, when you have
5:18 am
somebody on tape, here is guy on tape getting ready and then he did his thing. the whole thing on tape. this trial will go on, it will start in two, three, four years. we have to have in certain places that do it differently, they have what is called quick trial. a fast trial, a fast verdict. if he's guilty, we'll have to keep him, feed him, take care of him for let's say he's 28 or 29 years old. like for 50 years. >> brian: never should have been let out. >> president trump: shouldn't have been let out and the judge should be responsible for that, the way she did it. in utah you have death penalty and a good governor there, i have gotten to know him. the governor is intent on the death penalty in this case and he should be. in north carolina, you also have it, we have to make sure that
5:19 am
happens. horrific crime. >> brian: ainsley point is in the big picture, what do you say to people who say they see assassination attempts on your life and see what happen to charlie and are saying what is going on with the political process now instead of putting your votes, you try to survive. there are lawmakers cancelling events this weekend, aoc on the left and lawmakers on the right saying i'm concerned about doing a public event. as president, what do you tell them? >> president trump: you have to go forward. you watch as closely as you can. you have -- i have great people, i have people now much better and far more -- when i was hit in butler, they wouldn't, it was biden, they wouldn't approve. we had 55,000 people, tremendous crowds and far fewer people than biden, he had more secret
5:20 am
service than me and have like eight people show up and i had 55 or 60,000 people show up, butler is a great example. we have great people right now. we had a thing happen that is big and people don't talk about it. we won great decisions. supreme court, i give them credit, we had a decision on merit, this country is a country of merit. you don't have to be woman or man or this or that, don't have to be white, black, asian, whatever it is. it is based on merit now and i wasn't sure if anybody would have courage to make that decision. that was a big decision. when you go down to washington and see these people, they happen to be strong soldiers, they are big and strong and don't mind fighting as opposed to somebody that is not equipped to do that, that weighs 100 pounds. >> brian: and has a third
5:21 am
nationality or sexuality. >> president trump: you can say it, i rather not, you hire people based on merit. i give credit to supreme court for that. so with some of these people, though, we're going to have to do, politicians are one thing, but we have to have trials that go quickly. can't have a trial that is going to start in 3-1/2 years from now. >> lawrence: he's only one, that was political violence. democrats don't want national guard because they say they belong in war zeens. our cities, chicago, six shot over weekend, killed, 11 more. >> president trump: and that's a good weekend. >> lawrence: happening in every major city, a lunatic is on the street that some soros da allowed out, what is going to happen? >> president trump: i think i'll be first to say it. we're going to memphis.
5:22 am
memphis is deeply troubled, the mayor is happy, democratic mayor. mayor is happy and governor of tennessee is happy. deeply troubled. we're going to fix it like we did washington. i would prefer to go to chicago, i had a man head of big railroad, they are doing a merger. i asked him, one of the largest train companies, maybe the largest, you can figure out who it is, union pacific. he was in my office and started 45 years ago with the railroad. sir, i'm a railroader, that is the kind of guy, as opposed to wall street guy. impressive guy. i said, what do you think, where she we go next? we're going to straighten out crime in the cities. he said, sir, memphis would be good, he's on board of fed ex,
5:23 am
when i walk one block to my hotel, they put me in an armored vehicle with bullet-proof glass to take me one block. he said it is terrible. let me ask you a question, we're going to memphis, just announcing that. >> ainsley: national guard? >> president trump: national guard and anybody else we need, military if we need it. national guard. memphis is a great music city, home of elvis and everything else. i said where else should we go, where would you say? sir, please do me a favor, st. louis has been badly hit, very hard, he said, don't lose chicago. you are going to lose chicago, it's a great city, you're going to lose chicago. we have this loud pritzker on everyday. does he realize last weekend he had 11 people killed and 28
5:24 am
wounded. >> brian: doesn't bother him, hes the situation is handled. >> president trump: he said he has no problem. he had a weekend when 70 people were injured. every weekend they are losing many people. it is out of control. when this guy who is a smart guy, heads biggest railroad, the way he said it, sir, please don't lose chicago, we are about to lose chicago. it is a great city, you can save chicago. >> brian: san francisco said you are not allowed to use national guard, military in california, you are waiting for that decision on appeal. >> president trump: we've been winning those decisions. >> brian: you are waiting, you are appealing it, are you waiting for that appeal to go your direction so you can put the national guard and don't have to worry about court? >> president trump: we're really
5:25 am
not, we think we are going to win all of them. we won one against gavin newsom, who has been terrible. if we didn't go into l.a., you wouldn't have the olympics there. they lost 25,000 houses to fire, they have water they send into the pacific to protect tiny fish. which did badly when it didn't have water, the whole thing is crazy. you wouldn't have lost houses, would have had sprinklers and fire hydrants. now they want to build low income housing where many of the houses are. this came in last week. nobody has permits, federal government, lee zeldin is incredible and tougher permits, everybody is permitted in california in los angeles. everybody has a permit to build a house, rebuild a house except city and state have not given permits and it is a long time and people want to build.
5:26 am
>> ainsley: what is the reason? >> brian: environment. >> president trump: they are incompetent, my environmental is tougher than his and everybody had it within 30 days. this is over a year and these people are standing outside their house and want to rebuild. in my opinion, they want to take a large section and build low-income housing -- >> brian: pacific palisades. >> president trump: it is unfair to the people. they want to be politically correct. they are seething inside, they want to be politically correct and won't say it. >> lawrence: that is every city. you got chicago and other cities that say people we interview them say they want national guard, they want safety, in memphis, they want it. why not go anyway? >> president trump: democrats don't want it, almost every city in trouble is run by democrats, cashless bail is a disaster. when they came out with that and i think it started in new york,
5:27 am
when they came out, somebody kills somebody and judge says come back to trial in 10 years and go out and he goes and kills somebody else. cashless bail has to end. sanctuary cities are a disaster, it is a democrat, they are a couple of bad republican places and we'll fix them up. republicans want me to come. >> brian: louisiana and new orleans. >> president trump: governor of louisiana, other thing we could fix that up, i could fix that up in a week and a half. new orleans is in bad shape, the governor wants us, we'll do that, too. chicago is a major city, smart guy, sir, he was almost like as somebody that loves the country and he knows every city. the rail road stops in all the cities. some are too far gone, he said, don't lose chicago, you are about to lose chicago, he means lose it permanently. i can fix chicago, much bigger
5:28 am
than d.c., we can bring in military and national guard. we'll do what we have to do. the people in d.c. are so happy, they bring coffee to the national guard. >> brian: 30 days is up, does ever everything -- >> president trump: mayor has asked us to stay, democratic mayor and d.c. is different because i account federalize it if i want. >> brian: i know. >> president trump: we have more power in d.c., i can change the mayor, if i want, do whatever i want, i haven't had to, we've had a great relationship with the mayor. everybody is happy. the mayor was not in favor of it, at first we forced and then she saw results and everyone is thanking her. no crime anymore. people afraid to leave, locked in their house and have guns to protect themselves. bad guys know that mrs. jones
5:29 am
who is 85 years old is sitting in a chair with a gun in her hand and they leave her alone. if she did not have a gun, they wouldn't leave her alone. d.c. is a good example. the mayor is a very liberal person, not in favor of this and now all of a sudden, she's being praised by people in the community. who doesn't want it to happen? in chicago, do you want to have no crime or walk outside and get mugged or killed? they are losing six, seven, eight, nine people every week. and 30 or 40 are being shot, that is worse than afghanistan. no city like that, we hear about places like afghanistan is terrible. they don't have anything like that. when i had in front of president of poland, the press, we had a media scrum screaming in the oval office, i had to say, i'm pleased to report nobody shot or
5:30 am
killed this week. he is like, is that good? they don't have people shot every week, et cetera, et cetera, it is different. we are doing great, we would love to save chicago. we don't want to go into a hostile -- by the way, the people will greet us. they have professional agitators, they are professional. >> ainsley: paid. >> president trump: i went into a restaurant and this woman stood up, i looked at her, she had money, they get paid for it. from soros and other people. we're going to look into soros, i think it is a rico case against him and other people. this is more than protesters, this issagetation and riots on the street. >> ainsley: what do we do about our country, we have radical on the right and left, people are watching videos and cheering, some people are cheering that charlie was killed. how do we fix this country? how do we come back together?
5:31 am
>> president trump: i tell you something that is going to get me in trouble, i couldn't care less. radicals on the right are radical because they don't want to see crime. >> brian: worried about the border. >> president trump: we don't want people coming in, we don't want you burning our shopping centers, shooting our people in the street. radicals on the left are the problem and they are vicious and horrible and politically savvy. they want men in women's sports, they want transgender for everyone, open borders. worst thing that happened to this country, i solved ni inflation. worst thing is when we let 25 million people in, many of which and i say 80% should not be in our country, they empty their prisons into our country, they empty mental institution and insane asylum.
5:32 am
that is a mental institution on steroids. they empty out insane asylums into our country by the millions, it is the hardest thing. we have a border that is totally secure, nobody came in, think of that, they had nobody. we used to have millions come in, nobody came in and we back up border with military. done a great job. worst thing that happened to allow millions in from jails, mental institutionings, drug dealers, they threw them into our country and these stupid people, some of them are stupid in terms of common sense, brilliant in other ways. biden wasn't calling the shots, radical left geniuses surrounded him and he used the resolute desk. i hate he used it.
5:33 am
he did not do everything. autopen signed everything, he wasn't aware of anything being signed. >> brian: what about killers from prison and doesn't know it. >> president trump: took the unselect committee that investigated stuff and found out we were right on everything. they burned all the information, we were right. nancy pelosi knew, i will give you 10,000 troops, january 6, we don't want them, they found out it was true. they burned everything and biden gave them a pardon, gave people on the committee, congress people, a pardon. it is so what they did, what he did to this country will live in infamy. what he did and i say lawrence, i say what he and his people because he was sleeping most of the time and should not have been president.
5:34 am
>> lawrence: mr. president, i remember we talked to you the next day after they tried to assassinate you the first time and it changed you. you talked about your faith and american people, they are shaken this morning over charlie kirk, school shootings hatching, happening what do you say to people hurting this morning? >> president trump: i tell politicians and there are normal democrats, too, not many, i have friends and i've been called by democrats, they are equally concerned also, them, too. they don't want to go in a public space and start. i say something pretty simple, you got to do it, protect it, you have to do it. i have advantage of having hundreds around me, they don't have that advantage, they could be a congressman, look at steve scalise, if he didn't have brave people around him, they would
5:35 am
have been killed. three badly hurt and steve was badly hurt. i'm a fatalist, i guess i say, do your thing. or get out of the business and go into something else. it's a dangerous business and always has been. always has been. my job is very dangerous, if you would have told me this, i wouldn't have done it. if brian would have called me up. it is interesting, look at stats on president, it is the most dangerous career you can have, kennedy, lincoln, mckinley, go down the list. i chose to do it, i love doing it because we're going to make america great again. look at the stock market, had stock market hitting record highs everyday. never been higher. people at the yankee game, i love the cops here. sir, you have made me look like a genius, my wife respects me,
5:36 am
my 401(k) is through the roof, i've never, she thinks i'm a financial genius. i made them into financial genius. >> brian: there will be a press conference at 9:00, we will get more details on we got the guy, you guys got the guy, he's in custody and he's alive and turned in by a friend and family confirmed it. is the message to the right, the people going to go, i want revenge, not to have revenge. charlie kirk would not want revenge. >> president trump: you want revenge at the ballot box, but unfortunately mail-in voting is rigged. it is rigged. jimmy carter, they had a commission, he said any time you have mail-in voting, it is a crooked election. they got to stop. i can't say at the ballot box,
Check
5:37 am
places like california doesn't have ballot boxes. they send out 38 million ballots, nobody know where they are going and they come back, democrats get more than republicans. it is unfair the system, we will fix the system. >> ainsley: what are you going to do about president putin, we saw drones in poland, more sanctions? >> president trump: i will not depend anybody, poland were knocked down. he shouldn't be close to poland. i solved seven wars, seven. i did so many including pakistan and india. but big ones. some were unsolvable. congo and rawanda, i solved it. millions of people killed. i solved wars that were unsolvable. happening albania, i had the prime minister and presidents in my office, they sat so far
5:38 am
apart. fellas, get together. i've been fighting, both great guys, i've been fighting for 22 years, killing his people for 22 years, the other one for seven years, for seven years killing their people. let's hug and make up. we solved the problem. they said it was unsolvable. i thought easiest would be ukraine and russia. >> brian: problem is putin. he picked up pace of bombing. >> president trump: tremendous hate hatred between him and zelenskyy. >> brian: zelenskyy says i'm coming to the table. >> president trump: now he does, he wasn't coming so quickly, you remember -- >> brian: does your patience run out with putin? >> president trump: yeah, running out andun aring out fast. it takes two to tango. when putin wants to do it zelenskyy didn't.
5:39 am
when zelenskyy wants to do it, putin didn't. now zelenskyy wants to and putin is question mark. we'll have to come down very strong. only one. this is -- i've always had a great relationship with putin, this is the only war that i have not solved. let's get into gaza, that is another one. those are two that are -- >> brian: what is clamping down on vladamir putin? >> president trump: it will be hitting hard with sanctions to banks and having to do with oil and tariffs also. i've already done it, i've done a lot. india was their biggest customer, i put 50% tariff on india buying oil from russia. that is a big deal and causes rift with india. remember this, this is europe problem more than our problem. other thing i've done, brian, i know how you feel strongly about it and i understand.
5:40 am
a lot of people do and a lot don't. we were spending 350 billion on a war across the ocean. europe spending 100 billion, still a lot, it should have been equalized or they spent more. i went to nato, great relationship with nato countries. i got them to raise from 2% to 5% and pay for anything. all our costs are being paid by nato. nato, they are rich countries and they are paying. we are sending missiles and things to nato, nato is paying us and distributing where they want, in this case, ukraine. which is a big saving, big difference. >> brian: huge. >> president trump: i want to stop it for a different reason. now we make money, i don't want to make money. we are making money. i want to stop, they are losing 6 to 7000 sold yiers every week
5:41 am
and some people in town. big numbers are soldiers. last week they lost 7018 soldiers, more russia than ukraine. they are both, they have lost a million and a half soldiers fighting back and forth. i want to stop it on a human basis. they are russian and ukrainian, not america, i feel i have an obligation to do it. that was one i thought would be easiest of the seven and turned out to be toughest. >> lawrence: you have hamas, you have given them one final warning they rejected, they are upset and qatar upset, they have terrorists in their country, what are you going to do? >> president trump: when i got involved, it was a mess, byted biden left a mess, he was the worst president we've ever had,
5:42 am
his administration grossly incompetent and radical left. they thought open borders were great when people pour in from jails. he left a mess. we'll get that fixed. remember one thing, i got the hostages back, steve witkoff done a great job and adam bohler, he is a rich guy, he was going to put him in charge of massive fund, any job he wanted, he only wants to work on getting hostages back. we have 67 hostages back and don't pay any money. biden would pay 6 billion for five hostages and they would get more than we would. they were getting crazy money, when you do that, you have pro problems, they will go and keep kidnapping people. we will get it solved. i got all the hostages out,
5:43 am
unfortunately, you got a lot of dead people, too. they killed, it is a ruthless group of people. i told hamas, we want our hostages back, now we have all the americans back, i'm talking about hostages, mostly israeli. of the hostages back, there is 20, could be a couple dead in the recent days, there are 20 and also 34 that are dead. we want them back. the parents call me. >> brian: i know. >> president trump: i got close to a lot of these people. can you get my son back. oh, how is he doing? sir, he is dead, they have his body. no idea what i go through. they want that body back just as much as though he were alive, every bit as much, they want the body back. i'm getting them back. we got them back. every hostage you saw that came
5:44 am
out, we got them back and we've done a good job. we're not doing, give me two this week and three the next week and over period of time. final 20 or 10 will be tough, we have 20. i said the final will be very tough, let's see what happens. i told hamas, you got to give us the hostages back. >> brian: they're not. >> president trump: we'll find out. >> ainsley: what about interest rates, we hope jerome powell lowers them. you get to appoint somebody next may. >> president trump: we have somebody that shouldn't be there, demp accurate that shouldn't be there. bad things. i call him too late, jerome powell, jerome powell too late on the interest rates, always late except when it came to a democrat, before the election he dropped interest rates to help kamala harris, i assume that is
5:45 am
why, he shouldn't have dropped them then. he's a year late and despite that, we have the best economy we've ever had, best stock market. what we've created is strong. 17 trillion invested in this country. think of it, they did not, they had nothing. they had people leaving our country. we have the greatest boom in history and the stock market went up 700 yesterday. >> ainsley: inflation is down. >> president trump: i have low inflation, he had highest inflation in history. >> brian: up to 9. >> president trump: in many things 18, 19, 20%, worst inflation in the history of our country and we have almost no inflation anymore. if you look at energy, energy is so big it brings everything down. energy costs are way down. we have done a great job despite fact we should have lower interest rates.
5:46 am
we have two things. eave been successful because of tariffs, it has given us power to negotiate, tremendous power, also brought in trillions of dollars into our country. we have a big case, brought by foreign governments, foreign governments have been ripping us off for years. it is now in the supreme court. that case is really important to win because it has made us a rich country. made us a rich country. i don't want to call it retribution. >> brian: rebalance. >> president trump: we've been ripped off for years by countries and by having presidents not smart in a business sense. good politicians, stupid businessmen, allowed the world to rip us off. that supreme court case is so important, this economy, if we win the tariff case, should on legal merits, we would have to give back trillions --
5:47 am
>> brian: to countries, can you imagine? >> president trump: we would have to give back trillions of dollars we got because of tariffs. that is one of the most important cases in history. >> lawrence: what will you do if we lose that case? >> president trump: i don't want to talk about it, we would find something, would be to lose that case. it is totally legal, what we did is right, president has power to impose tariffs. for national security and everything. we have become a rich country. remember two months ago they said we found 29 billion, a lot of money, found 29 billion, we don't know where it is. i said where did it come from? i said, we don't know. check the tariff shelf, the money is ridiculous, enormous, they call me and said you are right, it came from additional
5:48 am
tariffs, 29 billion. we're a rich, powerful country and can do more for the people. >> brian: senator john thune says he believes chuck schumer wants to shut government down, along with hakeem jeffries, they will not vote for government funding package. how does president trump deal with government shutdown? >> president trump: we have to get republican votes. >> brian: you have to get 60, don't you? >> president trump: we will do probably a continuing resolution, or something, do something that -- here is the problem, democrats have, they are sick. there is something wrong with them. schumer is at end of the rope, will be defeated in the next election. if you gave them every dream right now, every dream they have -- they want to give away money to this or that and destroy the country. if you gave them every dream, they would not vote for it. don't even bother dealing with
5:49 am
them. we will get it through because the republicans are sticking together for the first time in a long time. we got the great big, beautiful b bill, that has tax cuts for middle class, no tax on tips, no tax on social security. >> brian: we have not felt that yet. >> president trump: you will feel it. we have to win the supreme court case, if we win that case, this country is a rocket ship like no other country. >> lawrence: they are not confirming your appointments either. >> president trump: i'll get it done, we're not going to be doing something they want. they want something badly, i won't tell you what it is, you will figure it out soon, we'll not be doing that. i'm fine, we have 200 people left their jobs to come into the administration and the democrats are blocking every, some of them are great.
5:50 am
if i had george washington and abraham lincoln back from the dead and wanted to go into the administration, schumer would not approve. >> brian: they are doing nuclear option, over 100 through? >> president trump: we have things that are powerful, many ways you would like not to do it, i'm okay. i'm okay. these are obstructionists and agitator democrats. i hope it gets back, in the old days, it sort of started with obama, level of unbelievable hatred and bush, i was not a big fan of bush and you are. >> brian: he was really good. >> president trump: i'm a much better golfer than he is. >> brian: i think he would agree with that. >> president trump: everybody agrees with that. let me just tell you, our country is doing great. a year ago we had a dead embarrassing country, we have the hottest country anywhere in
5:51 am
the world. >> ainsley: mr. president, see the buildings, a lot you built, that is capitalism, not socialism. we have mamdani ahead in the poll here. >> president trump: amazing, my little communist mayor. he has to come to washington for money, it is amazing, i was so surprised by this. even the other two candidates, you look at the candidates, maybe one-on-one, somebody could beat him and i'm not looking at the polls, would look like he is going to win and that is rebellion. it is rebellion against bad candidates, they are seeing things happening, we have taxes being put on by democrats that are so bad that even democrats are revolting, it is not possible for a democrats to lose. the presidential election i did great in new york,
5:52 am
considering -- i did great. there is a lot of question on booths and votes. but we should never be in a position where we're talking about a communist. a communist -- >> brian: doesn't like capitalism. >> president trump: so badly run. what could be, i'll tell you, if i were mayor of new york, would be greatest city of new york. >> lawrence: are you going to get more involved? >> president trump: i looked at police, new york's finest, they beat the hell out of my hand like a wounded warrior. some guys, they take, it is based on merit again so now they are very strong. some of them are crying, they never cry when they were born they did not cry, now they cry. they love the country and love me. it is law and order. they want common sense.
5:53 am
sir, may i shake your hand, they are crying and they are shaking my hand. >> brian: here is why that matters to ainsley's question, he's not pro-police, he's pro-social worker and cops are not backed, they will not do their job. you have adams, sliwa and cuomo. >> president trump: it looks like cuomo is leading the other two, i'm a republican, curtis is not exactly prime time, he wants cats in gracie mansion, that is home -- >> brian: good crime fighter. >> president trump: magnificent home of the mayor. we don't need to have thousands of cats. >> brian: he wants cats to eat the rats. >> president trump: looks like cuomo, you have a weather person here, who i think is wonderful
5:54 am
and i just told janice, you are responsible because of her level of passion about what happened with her parents and law, so incredible against cuomo that really brought them down. janice, i hope you are watching, i say this with respect. that brought cuomo down. her level of passion, what he did with the nursing homes was horrible. nobody had the impact that janice dean had. i used to watch, she'd do the weather and start talking about it. she was very emotional about it, she definitely loved them. they are parents-in-laws, i understand, it was brutal for cuomo. he seems to be leading but still way behind. it looks like one candidate is not going to work. >> lawrence: i'm curious, you talk about common sense, have you had any democrat pick up the
5:55 am
phone and say let's work together on this. >> president trump: i did. in the first term, we had the most successful economy ever, my first term was successful. i rebuilt the military, cut taxes, highest level ever, biggest level of regulation, very successful. if you remember prior to covid, we did a great job with covid, covid was covid, whole world had to suffer. it was horrible. we had the most successful economy ever in the history of the world and democrats, radical left democrats even were calling me and saying, could we get together? i always say success will bring us together. nothing else will bring us together. this was the ultimate success, we were rocking and rolling and not as much as now, the stock m market is going crazy, 401(k)s
5:56 am
and everything else. we were doing well and democrats were calling me, sir, i'd love to meet with you, i don't believe it, this guy, it was coming together. only thing going to bring us together is tremendous success. >> brian: i understand. >> ainsley: next week you go to the u.k. for state dinner, state visit, you and first lady with the royal family. >> president trump: i go to a funeral for a great gentleman named charlie kirk who should not be having a funeral right now, he should be in front of people, he loved doing it, so good at it, he had a big impact on the election. i got so many young voter, no republican ever gotten anything close. i dominated with young people, never happened before. i give him credit. >> brian: he was able to explain your policies. >> president trump: he related better to young people.
5:57 am
never seen anybody with any group, anybody relate to a group like he did. >> brian: just to build, we have two minutes left. >> president trump: you did not have a commercial. >> ainsley: you are pretty important. >> president trump: i wonder if they'll have a commercial, you are going to -- rupert or l lockland will let you go. >> brian: i remember melania's reaction when you almost got hit, i had to explain to barren, that is his father. what do you explain to barren, a young person charlie kirk was impressed with. what do you as dad, say to them? >> president trump: barren is a very good student and barren came to me and said, dad, i would like to meet somebody you know. charlie kirk. what? i thought he was anying to say like king charles or something,
5:58 am
really? i set up lunch with him and he came back. he said that guy is great, dad. it was cute. he is unbelievable. charlie had a magic over the kids and large numbers of them and very diverse, black, white, ever everybody. young women and boys, never seen anything like it. it was all good. it was good stuff, wasn't stuff you read when they are in favor of horrible things. it was really good stuff. we lost an unbelievable warrior and i have a feel ing erika, i spoke to her long yesterday, she's devastated. in between the devastation, she made statements, i said, you should try to do that. turning point usa is a real

power and i think she may and her group, i think they are going to stick together. >> brian: rally around her. >> president trump: you make it bigger, better, stronger, only do it if you are going to make it bigger, better, can you do it. i did not want to talk about that too much, she -- it is going to take her a while. >> ainsley: two little ones. >> president trump: beautiful kids. i'll never forget barren coming back saying that guy is great. >> brian: what do you tell him now? >> president trump: he was very hurt. when i heard it, i was in the midst of building, for 150 years they wanted a ballroom at the white house, they use tents on the lawn for president xi, if it rains it is a wipe out. i was with the architects, it is going to be incredible.
6:00 am
they came in and said charlie kirk is dead. i did not know what they meant. what do you mean dead? charlie kirk was shot. they thought he was dead because it was horrific. i said, dead? it was like i told people, get out, go, this is the worst. so bad for our country. sometimes out of really bad things, things can happen and be good. >> lawrence: mr. president, we have the news conference. >> president trump: you take the news conference. he is a great man and going to be more important because of what happened. god help his family. thank you very much. >> lawrence: we appreciate you. >> ainsley: praying for you and your wife, too. >> lawrence: over to bill and dana with this press conference at top of the hour. >> bill: thank you, guys, our coverage continues o
